Practice Your Pitch For Film & TV [Video]

As content creators, most of our time after creating and writing films and television shows will most likely be spent pitching, unless of course, you plan to do nothing with the project. I will assume you wouldn’t be here reading this post if you were planning to do nothing at all with it though and you should be preparing to structure and practice your pitch as much as you can to perfect it.

Now that you’ve created your project, you absolutely should be preparing to pitch a lot.  There is an unlimited amount of pitches you will ultimately have to do.  I say to everyone I talk to, “we are always pitching,” and it will be no different for you.  You will have to pitch talent, investors, crew, networks, studios, producers, directors, writers, homeowners (or friends and family) to let you shoot in their living rooms, event spaces to let you do a private screening, film festival directors to screen, and maybe even your friends to introduce you to people in those powerful positions to green-light your project..Despite how much time you spend practicing your pitch, you can always learn more.

I had the privilege of sitting on a panel at BRIC Media Arts in Brooklyn to give critique to a group of content creators who pitched their television and film projects live in front of an audience. You can watch the pitches and get some great feedback from myself and the other three panelists.

I’d love to know your thoughts and favorite takeaways. Put them in the comments below.
