The Key To An Effective Pitch is Clarity and Strategy

It’s pitching season and for the past two weeks, in The Pitch 101 Private Facebook Group, we’d been chatting about getting pitch meetings and pitching effectively. Yesterday, I did a Facebook live video because I felt some of the pitchers were struggling in these two areas; “Clarity” and “Strategy”.  Clarity and Strategy are absolutely needed when getting pitch meetings and pitching effectively once you are in the room.  Without them, your pitch loses its effect on the potential person you are trying to pitch.

In the FB Live, (You can watch it here) I explain to one of the pitchers, (whose goal is to leverage an opportunity she had on OWN TV Network and use it to get on platforms like Megafest and Essence Fest, and ultimately have her own talk show), how to get clear and create a pitching strategy to getting on those platforms.

You see, the how and the goal wasn’t clearly stated…at least not in the chatting that was taking place. It was through several probing questions over a course of a couple of FB chats and the Facebook Live that I grew clear on her overarching goal, what she was pitching, and was able to  come up with a potential strategy to getting on those platforms.

This was my pitching strategy and suggestion…

My suggestion was to first pitch one of her podcast guests; a gospel singer, influencer, and reality star, to see if she’d be a guest on the show she was pitching to Essence or Megafest, (those platforms would be a win/win for the podcast guest), and if she got a “yes,” to reach out to the programming executives of Megafest and Essence Fest to pitch hosting a Live talk show during those events. That’s how you leverage your assets!

You know what pitching issues are very common?

1 Having an amazing idea but no understanding of how to align your ideas with the wants/objectives of the potential person/organization you want to pitch.

2 Having an amazing idea, and not knowing how to effectively communicate it so it benefits the person buying into it.

3 Having an idea, but not knowing how to create a strategy for getting in the doors and pitching it.

EVERYTHING IS A PITCH, even the email you send that lands you the verbal pitch, is a pitch!

STRATEGY is equally important, if not MORE important because it’s the key to getting the pitch meeting and communicating an effective pitch offer once you are through those doors.

This is why I’ve created a FREE Pitching To Win audio series, The Secrets To Getting Pitch Meetings.” It’s one part of the 7-Part – Pitching to Win Audio Series.

During this season of pitching, I want you to win.  I want to offer you a strategy, help you gain clarity on the process, and offer you winning templates and pitching tools that will help transform your pitches from this point forward! Stay tuned in, I’ll be giving you this FREE audio on Monday, July 23rd.  Completely FREE. Feel free to share this with others you feel can benefit so they too can get in on the learning.
