4 Steps to Getting Through the Doors to Pitch

  1. Get in the right mind state. 🙇‍♀️

The first step is getting your mind right. You can’t do anything until you get your mind, right. In fact, I would say until you are 100% confident, don’t send an email, don’t dial a number, don’t do anything!  When you pitch you should exude passion, be bold and confident, and you need to be convinced that what you have to offer is amazing.

It’s so easy, even when you are a strong believer in your work, to get in your head, begin doubting yourself and to de-value your creativity. You need a plan to get past doubt.  I have a morning routine that begins at 5 am and includes saying about 50-100 affirmations and visualizing my entire pitch. One affirmation I affirm was borrowed from Deepak Chopra.  It says, “I am inferior or superior to no one.” I love that one.  To prepare yourself to pitch you must go in with that mindset. Like, “I don’t care if you’re the CEO, I’m not inferior to you. I have just as much value to offer as you do!”  You must go in with the mindset that they need what you have; they can benefit from what you have

2. Start at the top. ☝️

To start at the top, you most definitely must have your mind right! But also, to start at the top, that may mean you have to break some rules to get there. You can’t choose the same door that millions of people are waiting to get through or do the same things millions of people are doing. You know what they say, you’ve heard it before, “Insanity is doing the same thing, expecting different results.  You are probably not going to get in that way. So, what can you do?  Really ask yourself this, “What can I do differently from the masses of others looking to get through this same doorWhat can I say? What can I put in the email? How can I position myself?  Who can I ask to introduce me to someone behind the door? What favors can I call in? You must be willing to think outside of the box and break some rules. Use your creativity.  I often think and try different approaches.

3. Do a lot of research. 👩‍💻

Be the best researcher ever; reading all articles written on the company or person.  The questions you should be asking yourself when you are researching the person or company that you want to pitch is, “What do they need? What do they desire? What is making them money already?

4. Read the need and use what you learn to get the pitch. 🎁

Research to learn what the need and desires of the company or person you are pitching are first.  Everything that you learn during your research gives you an advantage. Most people that go in to pitch do not do thorough research.   They usually reach out and say something simple about their projects; things that dozens, maybe hundreds of others have written in their emails. But what can make you stand out from the rest is how you use your research.  It helps you to pitch all the things you know that matter to them.
